Dear users!

On this page you can download Linux Debian 8 distribution kit, that was specifically created to solve educational tasks with a minimal usage of system resources.
Distro can be used to work on computers with low system resources or on virtual machines.

We recommend to visit: "Distribution" and "Video guide" sections to get installation instructions and specifications.

School Project Debian 8 XFCE (SPD8X)

This resource is dedicated to the distribution kit of the Linux operating system Debian 8 x86, which is specifically configured to work correctly on weak computers of a significant part of schools in the Russian Federation.
Note that we DID NOT CREATE «a fundamentally new operating system», but set up the Debian 8 32 bit distribution based on the XFCE environment to ensure minimal use of system resources and providing educational needs.
This distribution can be freely downloaded, modified and transferred under
GPL (General Public Licence), because the software used to create the distribution was obtained by us under this license. Proprietary components’s rights (drivers, codecs) are ruled by separate licenses.

Technically, the iso image we offer is a backup of the already installed and configured Linux Debian 8 operating system using the Systemback program.
Unfortunately, it’s development has stopped, and the latest version of the most respected, stable and free operating system that correctly works with systemback is — Debian 8.

As part of the school project based on the experience of working with this OS, we decided to create a resource that would contain useful information about the installed software used on the computers of our school.
So, it is not just a «computer science project», but also a backup copy of data for ourselves, teachers and students of our school, as well as all who is interested in this work.

To configure the login manager, edit the file /etc/slim.conf (administrative privileges required)

Instructions:

After downloading, the image can be used to install the distribution package on a hard disk or on a virtual machine.
In the case of installation on a hard disk, you have to burn it onto a DVD disk or create an installation bootable USB drive.
To create a USB drive in WINDOWS you use rufus.
For the same purposes in Linux, you can use the command (bash) :
su (root required)
cd /home/user/ISO FOLDER/
cat spd8x.iso > /dev/sdb; sync
- the process will not have an execution status bar.
When finished, you will see the username and the ability to continue typing commands in the console.
It is assumed that /dev/sdb — is the name of the flash drive in the system.
Check:
sudo cat /proc/mounts

The output will show a list of mounted devices. In our case, it is sdb.
After creating a drive or disk, you should change the BIOS settings to load the proper device.

The operating system support legacy boot mode ONLY.
If you use UEFI (most modern PCs), you can break your windows loader or the installation will crash.
If you have UEFI — we recommend to use a virtual machine.

Hello!

On this page you will know more about developers of SPD8X distro.
The goal of this project - is to help students and teachers of educational institutions. Distribution was created to support the hardware of most computers, special attention was paid to old PCs. with low system resourses.

The project was made by:
Vasiljev Ivan Sergeevich, the student of Municipal Budget Educational Organization Foundation Vasiljevskaja middle School of General education
Lovyagin Nikolay Vitaljevich, computer science teacher of Municipal Budget Educational Organization Foundation Vasiljevskaja middle School of General education.

The distribution kit was originally created for students and teaching staff of the Vasiljevskaja school, as our school had very old and weak PCs. The purchases of the Microsoft Windows OS were hampered because of the sanctions, and to prevent freezes and for a long time delaying processes while working, we decided to make, light, compact and fast distro (distribution kit) on Linux Debian 8 base for a comfort work with school PCs. This distro is now the main in our school and is installed on all PCs in the computer science class.
